Star Worlds Arcade DeKalb, Illinois, United States 3/5 I just visited this after my wife saw it featured in a local promotional magazine on September 21, 2024. $5 gets you 30 tokens. Arcade games: Not that many - I'd say around 8 total. I played some PacMan (2 tokens) and wanted to play Asteroids Deluxe, but that wasn't set up for tokens yet. They had a good pinball row (6 tokens to play 1 game) which had some recent titles. However, too much redemption (crane games, coin pusher) were in the space, and not enough arcade games. I asked about the east building, but was told that's just the warehouse.
Tilted 10 Rockford, Illinois, United States 2/5 If you are looking for classic arcade games, this isn't the arcade you are looking for. It has a ton of the newer stuff, including a massive Pac Man Battle Royale, a load of redemption, TONS of space, but not many classic games.
Galloping Ghost Arcade Brookfield, Illinois, United States 5/5 I went here for my birthday. This is the best arcade I have been to in my life. Over 700 games, and the working to dead ratio is at least 20 to 30 working to one not working. The games get regular use, are all on free play (some you have to hit a button to load credits, others are on pure free play. Pay one fee for the entire day. The bathrooms are okay, but you could play here until you are exhausted. Two locations - one with pinball machines (separate fee), and the arcade building which is simply MASSIVE which you pay $25 (at the time I went this year) per person for unlimited fun. If you do one thing this year, visit Galloping Ghost.
I/O Arcade Bar Madison, Wisconsin, United States 4/5 I visited as part of a bike ride around the lake in Madison. I agree that this has games I'd want in my collection, and they had a good bunch of them. I tried to play Berzerk, but it was coin-jammed, so I worked with the employee and unjammed it, only to find it had no coin mechs. I coined up a few games and played it, but it seems a bit odd to have a game on the floor when you require quarters to have no coin mechs. All games were playable, and fairly clean. The beer selection was good too.
Barcade (Manhattan, NY) New York, New York, United States 5/5 We dropped in while riding the subway back from The Statue of Liberty / Ellis Island. First off, the Beer Menu is EPIC. Lots of great craft beers on tap, and a very approachable staff. The game selection is very good. Some of the games (Asteroids) had button glitches, and they were reported for service. I enjoyed spending an hour there, dropping quarters. Make sure you buy some beer or drinks - those help keep the games running and pay the bills. The food was pretty good too.
Musee Mecanique San Francisco, California, United States 5/5 I had a good time visiting this place when we were in San Francisco a few years ago. The variety was good, the nostalgia was good.
South Moon Barbeque Hinckley, Illinois, United States 3/5 For what it is (a really good Barbeque restaurant with an arcade) it's not bad. Most games were working, but some in the front windows were sun-bleached to the point where you feel bad for them.
Old School Pizza Malta, Illinois, United States 4/5 Lots of games - they put them into a larger space, and more games are there. Plenty of classics. Most of them working.
Andy's Awesome Arcade Atascadero, California, United States 3/5 Lots of classics, including Asteroids Deluxe, Space Invaders, Tempest, Super Sprint, Star Castle (I forgot how fun that game is) Stargate, Sinistar and others. LCD screens on many games, I spoke with the tech and noted that they just don't play as well and CRTs can be easily fixed. I gave him this website's address to find help on fixing CRTs.
Free Play Bar & Arcade Providence, Rhode Island, United States 5/5 I was impressed with the selection and condition. Only a few glitches were noted. The Japanese games in particular were interesting, plus tons of classics. $7 per person with no re-entry is a more than fair price. We had a good time.
Ryans Family Amusements - Newport Newport, Rhode Island, United States 3/5 This place is ALL redemption. No golden age or silver age or 90's games - it's literally all redemption. Lots of nice, new redemption stuff for the kiddies, but no classics at all. Not a single one. I was disappointed. It is what it is.
