Game Introduction

This is the second game in the series. The object is to beat-up your enemies using your normal and specialty moves and any other available objects. The game is basically an enhanced remake of the original, but the game play is much more difficult.

Game Play

The game is a total clone of the original, except that the gameplay was changed a bit to be more like Renegade.

Enemies:

  1. Burnov - A big fat masked guy who likes to grab his opponent by the head and punch them in the face - then laugh. His body disappears after you defeat him, leaving his clothes.
  2. Abore - A huge guy who wears huge goggles. He can knock you to the ground with one slap.
  3. Chin Taimei - Chinese fighter with two sticks. He has a variety of moves and can easily drain your energy with a couple of hits.
  4. The Doppelganger: After you defeat Willy, you will fight agaisnt your shadow. He has all your moves, can throw fireballs and can posses you to drain your energy.

All the other enemies are virtually indentical to their counterparts except Bolo, who is replaced by a similar enemy named Oharra from Double Dragon, except they have a different look.

Trivia

According to the manual, the game was widely released in the United States and Canada, but only in limited quantities in Europe.

The NES-Famicom version of Double Dragon II, which was developed by Technos Japan Corp and published in North America by Acclaim, is a totally different game than the Arcade version. The game's basic premise, gameplay, visual, audio and characters from the 8-bit version are very similar to the arcade game, but the layout is completely different. There are over nine different missions - some which are inspired loosely by the arcade game - filled with several obstacles like pitfalls, conveyor belts, helicopter gunfire, and teleport platforms. There are a few new moves and weapons like hyper-uppercuts, jumping-knee-pads and incendiary bomb -s as well as new enemies labeled Right Arms and Ninjas. There are also story scenes at the beggining of each mission with text explaining the latest storyline developments. The game has an additional end boss not see in the the Arcade version plus a much happier ending.

In Japan, Palsoft made a Mega Drive Genesis port of Double Dragon II based on the Arcade game that was not very good, while Naxat Soft made their own PC Engine version using the NES game as a basis.

Cabinet Information

The game was released in both 19" and 25" dedicated versions.

Conversion

In addition to the other two Double Dragon titles, the cabinet will quickly accept board swaps from just about any JAMMA game requiring a horizontal monitor, an 8-way joystick and three buttons or less.

Miscellaneous

The game was licensed to ROMSTAR for US and Canadian manufacture and distribution.
