Cobra Command was a laser disc conversion kit for Dragon's Lair/Space Ace and M.A.C.H. III games. The two kits were different and had different boards completely. They also used different laser disc players. Cobra Command involved flying your helicopter through different laser disc-generated sections. After completing all sections you attacked the main enemy headquarters. This game was known in Japan as Thunder Storm. Data East later released an unrelated shoot-em-up titled Cobra Command in 1988. Film Produced by Toei Animation Co., Ltd. It was the second arcade game to incorporate the Laserdisc technology featuring cartoon animation. COBRA COMMAND by Data East uses anime footage created by Toei specifically for the game.Opening Sequencehttpwww.youtube.comwatchvGLVBvRet8g0fmt18TechnicialM.A.C.H. 3 hardwareMain CPU I8086 @ 5 Mhz, 2x M6502 @ 1 MhzSound Chips 2x DAC, 2x AY8910 @ 2 Mhz, SP0250 @ 3.12 Mhz

There are seven flying sections that you have to go through to reach the enemy base. The game has two ways of firing: machine gun and missile. The machine gun requires multiple hits while the missile can take out an object with one shot. Cobra Command has overlaid graphics generated by the game PCB that shows the score for each player, the cross-hairs for your gun/missile and the enemy damage meter. The game graphics are also used for instructions and high score tables, but the rest is laser disc graphics.
Cobra Command was released as a kit for Dragon's Lair and M.A.C.H. 3 games. The first kit included a game PCB, harness, laser disc, control panel and marquee and used the LDV-1000 player. The second kit was just a ROM swap which made the conversion much less complicated. This title should not be confused with the 1988 Data East game Cobra Command that was a horizontal-scrolling shooter.
