There is actually a major difference in the way bonuses work between V-Five and Grindstormer. In Grindstormer, destroyed ennemies leave bonuses that directly affect the ship. You can pick up "speed up", "shot", "search" etc bonuses directly instead of selecting them from a bonus table.
In V-Five, each bonus gem makes a cursor advance 1 step in the bonus table on the bottom on the screen (similar to Slap Fight, also developped by Toaplan). Bonuses are: Speed Up, Shot, Search, Missile, Power, and Shield. Press the B button to get the bonus indicated by the cursor's position in the bonus table.
