Game Play

In the one-player and co-operative modes, the player(s) attempt to sink battleships by dropping bombs and fallen planes on them. Collisions with other planes and/or gunfire from the ship will result in the loss of a life. Players have unlimited lives, but may only allow three battleships to escape. In the dogfight mode, the players attempt to destroy all of his/her opponent's planes. After doing that, the loser of the dogfight must defend his ship(s) from the victor. There are various differences between ROM sets in these regards.

Cabinet Information

The dedicated cabinet is very heavy and subject to the common Bally cabinet rot (like Spy Hunter, Tron, etc.) where the bottom of the cabinet eventually just disintegrates.

Technical

The dedicated game uses an 8-track tape player to play background sound effects (ack-ack, fighter's engines, shouting, explosions, etc.) while the game is in progress. The original tape is hard (impossible?) to find, but the game can be played without it. (Truth be told, the tape adds too much ambience to enjoy the game fully without it.) The Tron conversion does not use the tape, and the ROMs provide some very cool-sounding engine noise which increases in pitch when you are diving.

There are different ROM sets depending on whether the game is dedicated, or a Tron conversion. The current MAME includes both sets.

Fixes

Like all MCR class games, check the power supply! The voltage regulator boards are infamous for having problems.
