This is a fast paced, 3-D baseball game that allows one or two people to enjoy the great game of baseball. Players can choose their team, control how the players react, their skill levels, the type of stadium, the complexity of the game, etc. Namco included stats from the actual Major League teams and players plus lots of realistic speech and a nice sound track.

Players use a joystick and three buttons to control the actions of their baseball team and players (batting or fielding).

While pitching, move the joystick just before releasing the ball. This allows you to change the pitch at the last possible second, thus confusing the batter. While batting, move your player around the plate just before the pitcher releases the ball. This will allow you to change your hitting style and confuse the pitcher.
This game was released as a JAMMA conversion kit so it should work in just about any JAMMA ready machine. The Great Sluggers kit comes with an instructional card designed to be placed inside the plexi-glass, facing the players. However, since Namco didn't make the card very bright, it is very difficult to see inside cabinets with dark plexi-glass bezels.
This game was only sold as a JAMMA conversion kit.

All of the game controls are set by using an on-screen menu that is initated by pressing the Test button. The only actual switches on the PCB are the Test Mode and Screen Freeze switches (they are both normally OFF). The sound value is set by adjusting a volume control on the PCB. The game's PCB has two edge connnectors. The first is a 56-pin JAMMA edge connector and the second is a 48-pin extended edge connector. The second connector is only required if you install this kit into a cabinet that allows stereo sound. The JAMMA connector provides the mono sound for mono cabinets.
