Game Introduction

There are three levels of play:

  • CADET: Basic training essentially.
  • CAPTAIN: You will be doing some fancy combat in this mission.
  • ACE: God Bless You! These enemies will try to out-fly you.

When the game is over, rather than you dying you will always eject, giving you a non-violent but stunning ending to a very worthy game.

Game Play

The game is mainly dog fighting so gun the enemies down and do not waste your missiles since you will need them for later targets. BEWARE: the enemy fighter can employ ECM against your missles (too bad you cannot against theirs). Do not fire unless you can spare a miss!

Cabinet Information

This is a cockpit game that simulates an F-16-like aircraft. The monitor display is 52 inches in diameter and there is sharp looking side-art on both sides of the monitor cabinet. The cockpit portion is riddled with various gauges and instrumentation that makes it look like a real flight simulator!

VAPS Arcade/Coin-Op Air Combat Census

There are 15,264 members of the Video Arcade Preservation Society / Vintage Arcade Preservation Society, 9,669 whom participate in our arcade census project of games owned, wanted, or for sale. Census data currently includes 166,973 machines (7,000 unique titles).

Scarce - There are 4 known instances of this machine owned by Air Combat collectors who are active members. Of these, 2 of them are original dedicated machines. One is a conversion in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet. One is a set of circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

Wanted - There is one active VAPS member currently looking for Air Combat.

This game ranks a 2 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most often seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census want list records.

Rarity and Popularity independently are not necessarily indications of value. [More Information]
