Memory: "My dad Derrell G. Norman was the inventor of the freeballer. He went to work for Jack Sprott Sr. at Central Music in Temple Tx back in the 50's and 60s. It was there he invented the free ball pinball machine and he converted a free game machine to his free baller. In Texas, free games were illegal because it seemed like gambling to the politicians. 6 months later the Williams company came out with Derrell's free baller. It was called the Friendship 7. If you remember that one you are showing your age. Bally Company immediately followed with their own free ball version. The free ball concept is still in use by every manufacturer. Throughout his career working on electronic games and jukeboxes he made many improvements to amplifiers, dollar bill acceptors, turntable mechanisms both mechanical and electronic. He would always tell the manufacturer about his improvements. They would many times send someone personally to see him. He never asked for anything from them and I remember one instance where he turned down a check from Rockola. It was his love to work and repair the best he could. That was enough for him."
