Trivia

This was the first arcade game that had the option to include a paper dollar bill acceptor.

Cabinet Information

Dedicated stand-up has a red Marquee with NFL Football written across it. It also has a red football player at the end of the writing. The front of the box has a Big NFL emblem on the base of the unit. Each side of the box is blue and consists of a football player carrying the ball and avoiding a tackle from another player.

Miscellaneous

This game used live footage from a Raiders / Chargers football game. There was also an upgrade to the game that used footage from a Dallas / Redskins game. For each play selection, there were eight possible filmed segments, each having two different soundtracks for a total of over 800 different video combinations. There was a similar laser disc version of this game that was created for the Halcyon System.

Technical

CPU: Z80

This game follows the standard MCRIII board set wiring (e.g. Discs Of Tron, Journey), but it requires two additional board sets: a Squawk & Talk MCRII and a I.P.U. board.

Fixes

The most common problem with these games is the disc player. It uses a needle to read the discs which is prone to damage. If you can find one, replace the needle and this change will more often then not solve your problem.

Another common problem is a worn out function motor drive belt, which is evident if the player will not unload the disc from the caddy or if the player makes a constant whirling sound when powered up, with the access door failing to open. Go to this URL to get belt replacement instructions:
