Pumbaa & Timon's Ball Toss (Club Disney)

Description

This prototype, believed to be one of a kind, was developed by Disney for their short-lived Club Disney chain. Club Disney locations were Chuck-E-Cheese like amusement centers for kids. Disney closed the chain in November 1999, soon after opening the locations, due to profit losses. According to the Club Disney web site at the time, "We have concluded that a broad rollout of the clubs will not meet the company's return requirements for the capital that would be invested in the business."

The machine is based on an existing machine from another manufacturer, enhanced with custom Disney art and sound chips (voices are not the same as from the original movies).

Five different machines are known to exist. The most interesting three are Hercules - Zero Hero Striker, Jungle Book - Baloo's Coconut Factory, and Lion King - Pumbaa and Timon's Ball Toss. All three were acquired by a collector in November 2000 directly from Disney, exactly one year after Club Disney's demise.
