Game Introduction

The game has a first-person view of the disc's animation. Use the joystick to aim the crosshairs and fire at the robots. Rotate the x-axis to dodge objects and to choose travel paths.

Game Play

The player starts off inheriting a gun, then takes off on a tour through the city, taking out robots in all kinds of public places including baseball games, highways, parking lots, and department stores. If you get caught, you get thrown in jail. If you have lives left, you will be 'broken out' and then led on a different path through the city. It all leads to a trip to the stars (via the Galaxy Express 999, of course) which leads you to the source of the robot infestation.

Trivia

This laserdisc game uses anime from the films Galaxy Express 999 and Adeiu Galaxy Express 999. This was the only game that Millenium Games ever released.

Miscellaneous

The game play is very different from any other laser game in that it allows the player to choose more than one correct move in any given onscreen threat. Most laser games of this era allow only ONE correct move with multiple incorrect moves.

VAPS Arcade/Coin-Op Freedom Fighter Census

There are 15,264 members of the Video Arcade Preservation Society / Vintage Arcade Preservation Society, 9,669 whom participate in our arcade census project of games owned, wanted, or for sale. Census data currently includes 166,973 machines (7,000 unique titles).

Scarce - There are 4 known instances of this machine owned by Freedom Fighter collectors who are active members. Of these, 2 of them are original dedicated machines. One is a conversion in which game circuit boards (and possibly cabinet graphics) have been placed in (and on) another game cabinet. One is a set of circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.

Wanted - There is one active VAPS member currently looking for Freedom Fighter.

This game ranks a 1 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most often seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census ownership records.

This game ranks a 2 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most often seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on census want list records.

Rarity and Popularity independently are not necessarily indications of value. [More Information]

Technical

The original prototype units run on Williams Star Rider boardsets. The only difference lies in the location of the ROMs and PIF board and it runs on a Philips 22VP931 laser player. However, after the prototype units were perfected, Mellenium created separate hardware for their dedicated Freedom Fighter units and housed them in Dynamo cabinets.
