Third Planet puts you in a battle between a horde of aliens in labyrinth of meteors. The aliens' goal is to navigate through the path of meteors and destroy Earth (located in the center of the screen), rather than attacking the player. You only get one ship per game, and when you are hit, your right engine is taken out, and you are slowed down. The next hit takes out your phaser gun, and you must return to base for repairs. If your ship takes another hit, or if the aliens successfully reach Earth, the game ends in a flashy sequence of Earth zooming in to fill the whole screen, and exploding.
